Yugabyte: Founding Engineer, Distributed SQL
An early engineer helping grow a distributed SQL database from startup to enterprise platform. I led the user-experience team and became the go-to for the gnarly deployment and infrastructure problems.
Context & Problem
I joined Yugabyte early, when the product was strong but rough to adopt. Taking it from early-stage to enterprise-ready meant a lot of ambiguity—figuring out what both community and enterprise users actually needed across the whole journey.
Role & Responsibilities
Founding engineer. I led the user-experience team focused on the end-to-end product experience, went deep on YugabyteDB deployment across Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CloudFormation, and supported sales and pre-sales through tricky customer engagements. I also mentored interns and led onboarding for new engineering hires as the team scaled.
Architecture & Key Decisions
Deep specialization in YugabyteDB deployment architectures and DevOps tooling, plus foundational work in cloud-infrastructure design and internal networking that supported the company's growth.
Impact & Outcomes
Helped establish the technical and operational foundations that carried YugabyteDB from an early-stage startup to a leading distributed database platform.
